Questions for Participants, Sponsors and Volunteers



Q.  I am a volunteer, where do I go?



A.  Report to the corner of Franklin Avenue and Spruce Street at the volunteer

tent.  Park your vehicle in the parking garage at the corner of Franklin Avenue

and Linden Avenue.  If you prefer to be closer to the end of the parade route,

park in one of the two garages along the 100 block of Adams Avenue (near the

Hilton Hotel), in the parking garage on the corner of Linden Street and

Washington Avenue or at any available street spots.

Q. I have a float, where do I go?

A. Check with your group leader.  About 1 week before the parade an email will

be sent to your group leader identifying where floats are to report.  The lineup

location of each float is different depending on its location in the parade. 

Q. Where do I report? I have floats and walkers.

be sent to your group leader identifying where floats are to report.  The lineup

location of each float is different depending on its location in the parade.  All

walkers, and those riding the float are to report to the same location as the float. 

Parking for those in the parade is available in the parking garage at the corner of

Franklin Avenue and Linden Avenue.  If you prefer to be closer to the end of the

parade route, park in one of the two garages along the 100 block of Adams

Avenue (near the Hilton Hotel), in the parking garage on the corner of Linden

Street and Washington Avenue or at any available street spots.

Q. My company is a sponsor and/or I am carrying a balloon. Where do I go?

A.  Report to the corner of Franklin Avenue and Spruce Street at the volunteer

tent.  Park your vehicle in the parking garage at the corner of Franklin Avenue

and Linden Avenue.  If you prefer to be closer to the end of the parade route,

park in one of the two garages along the 100 block of Adams Avenue (near the

Hilton Hotel), in the parking garage on the corner of Linden Street and

Washington Avenue or at any available street spots.

Q. I am dropping off a participant or volunteer but not staying at the parade.  Where do I go?

A. The drop-off area is at the corner of Linden Street and Franklin Avenue. The

volunteer or participant should walk one block to the corner of Franklin Avenue

and Spruce Street to the volunteer tent.

Q.  I am in the parade.  How do I get there?

A.  Several city streets will be closed beginning at 7:00 a.m. making it difficult to

get to certain areas of the parade route and staging area.  There are two

recommended routes to enter the city which will involve minimal roadblocks:

1. From 81 North or South on the South/East side of the Scranton, take the

Central Scranton Expressway (Exit 185) down to where it meets with

Jefferson Avenue.  Bear right onto Jefferson Avenue.  Go two blocks and turn

left onto Mulberry Street.  Follow Mulberry Street 5 blocks to Franklin Avenue. 

Turn left on Franklin and go 1 block to the corner of Franklin Avenue and

Linden Street.  This is where participants and volunteers can be dropped off

and where the participant/volunteer/walker parking garage is located.  If you

want to park closer to the end of the parade route, turn left on Lackawanna

Avenue at the bottom of the Scranton Expressway and go 1 block to Adams

Avenue.  Turn right on the 100 block of Adams Avenue where there will be

two parking garages.  If you have a float in the parade, check with your group

leader.  About 1 week before the parade an email will be sent to your group

2. From 81 North or South on the North/West side of Scranton, take the other

end of the Scranton Expressway – Rt 11 South (Exit 191B).  Follow the

Expressway to the 7th Avenue, Providence Road Exit.  Turn right on 7th

Avenue at the end of the exit ramp.   Volunteers and walkers should go 1

block and turn left on Linden Street.  Follow Linden Street to the corner of

Franklin Avenue and Linden Street.  This is where participants can be

dropped off and where the participant/volunteer/ walker parking is located.  If

you have a float in the parade, check with your group leader.  About 1 week

before the parade an email will be sent to your group leader identifying where

floats are to report.  The lineup location of each float is different depending on

its location in the parade.

Q.  How do I volunteer for the parade?

Q. Will the parade be canceled for weather related issues?

A.  No. The parade will take place rain, snow or shine.  Balloons may not be

flown in high winds.

Q.  I am participating in the parade. Where do I report and at what time?

Q. What kind of giveaways can I throw from my float?

A. We would love for you to bring giveaways for the parade spectators. However,

a Scranton city ordinance prevents the throwing of anything from your float or

vehicle. Therefore, any giveaways, including candy must be handed to

spectators and not thrown from vehicles.

Questions for spectators

Q. I am a spectator, where do I park?

A.  You can park in the Steamtown Mall garage (but must enter from the

Washington Avenue side), at one of the two garages along the 100 block of

Adams Avenue (near the Hilton Hotel), at the garage located along the 300 block

of Washington Avenue or at any available street spots.

Q.  How do I get to the parade?

A.  Several city streets will be closed beginning at 7:00 a.m. making it difficult to

Washington Avenue entrance to the Steamtown Mall.  You can park in one of

these garages or find parking along the city streets which are not blocked

end of the Scranton Expressway – Rt 11 South (Exit 191B).  Follow the

Expressway to Mulberry Street.  Continue straight on Mulberry Street to

Jefferson Avenue.  Turn right on Jefferson and follow it 2 blocks where it turns

into Lackawanna Avenue.  Follow Lackawanna Avenue 1 block to Adams

Avenue.  Turn right on the 100 block of Adams Avenue where there will be

two parking garages or turn left on Cedar Avenue.  Circle around the General

Dynamics building to the Washington Avenue entrance to the Steamtown

Q.  Where is a good place to see the parade?

A.  Anywhere along the parade route.   There are minimal wires around

courthouse square so the balloons will be able to fly high.

Q. Will the parade be canceled for weather related issues?
